Future Project

I am at the point in my current project where I am ready to move on to the next one. Which I am obviously already planning out in my head. Actually I am usually planning three or four projects ahead. I just end up getting scatter brained and starting half of them and then realizing later I haven't finished them.

Here is my current object of affection:

Cute right? Would probably look even cuter on a cute baby instead of that ball of hemp.

Hopefully, I will get to start on this soon!

Owl Hats

Most of you have seen this hat before, this is just a slightly larger version. Which is awesome because it fit baby Sammie. Who clearly is going to be a fabulous knitter when she's get older. She already tried to help anytime I have yarn out.

So I figured I would snap up some pictures with her while she was in a good mood. I figure she is cute and would make a great model. I went into Tyra mode and got her ready for her shoot.

She was too enthralled with the yarn to get the job done.

Come on Sammie don't let the hat wear you girl, wear the hat.

Not Enough Knitting

Wow, I just was looking at all my recent posts and they are in fact, yarn less. How horribly disappointing. Ironically, I am working on something completely fun and fabulous.

Right now it looks like a mess. A bunch of random limbs and no head. Awesome, if my name was Sid Phillips. However, my name is Katie and if you didn't catch the reference to Toy Story above maybe this will jog your memory.

This little dude isn't going to turn around and say, "Who are you callin' busted, Buster? That's right, I am talking to you Sid Phillips."

Well if you haven't figured it out yet, I am creating my own little Woody. So much fun right!? It will go so great with the Bullseye. He was obviously lonely and needed his friend. So I felt compelled to create him.

There will definitely be more to come with this!

Dry Erase Board

So this is my desk, with the all the reasons I have been so inconsistent with my posts lately. But it sure is cute isn't it?

Best part? It cost me $1. Can't get much better than that. Well maybe if my to-do list wasn't quuuuite so long. This is what happens at the end of a quarter. Long lists and long work days. That's what happens when you are a grown-up. Or should I say a "grown-up."

Anyways, you want to hear how to get this for the amazing price of $1?! Here it is. I went to my favorite dollar store (the Dollar Tree) and got a wood frame. They had different ones that were all different sizes making it even easier to custom design you dry erase board. The only important thing is there has to be a glass front or this will not be a dry erase board. Whatever you write on it would not come off, even with some SHOUT!

I had the paint, scraps of fabric, and Elmer's glue on hand. So I gathered those supplies up and got to work. First I took the cardboard back off the picture frame. Then I loosely measured the fabric so that it would easily wrap around the cardboard with room to spare.

Then I created a little bit of modge podge- my own version is not measuring- just pouring a little water till it becomes runny. Then I took a brush and applied it to the cardboard then laid the fabric on top of it and wrapped it around the back. I trimmed the corners so that it wouldn't be bulky looking.

Put that piece down flat and let it dry. While you are waiting for it to dry, grab your paint and a sponge brush and get working on the frame! This is the fun part! I painted the wooden frame a solid color first. I let that dry then took my sponge brush and very lightly sponged on the second color to give it that cool effect. I bet even mixing in a third color would be awesome!

After everything is dry, then put the whole frame back together and you are ready to go! And I mean that literally as these fill up fast with things to do!

Makes and Takes Spotlight

I was featured on Makes and Takes Spotlight! Laurel commented on the last blog post for my One Seam Headbands and told me I should submit. I checked out the website because I had never really spent a lot of time of it. I won't be making that mistake again. I love that site. I saw a few things I would LOVE to try. Including this 4 minute chocolate cake. Can we say delicious? Who wouldn't want to get a fabulous fix in under four minutes.

Also those yarn balls look like so much fun. I know I have seen that project before, but this was a new inspiration for me. I seriously need to get back on my crafting kick...

But that's besides the point. The point is check out Makes and Takes. So much fun!

One Seam T-shirt Headbands

I love headbands. They are cute, easy and fun. Also they are great for hair that needs to be washed. Or when you sit at a computer all day and want to get your hair out of your face. I also wear them to play sports. Notice I didn't say workout. I play sports. Working out just isn't for me. The point is, headbands are multipurpose awesome creations.

I was in desperate need of a well fitting headband because they can't be too tight. It is so difficult to find a headband with the correct thickness and tightness. So clearly the option is to make my own. I grabbed some old t-shirts, scissors, a really old hot glue gun and sewing machine and my best friend and got to work.

We started by cutting up the t-shirts. Everyone has some old t-shirts that they never wear. Use them for something and clear out your drawers. The more colors the more you can mix and match. We cut three inch wide strips the same length as your head. Then 1.5 inch strips 12 inches long to make the flowers.

I then pull on the 3 in strip to make the ends curl up a little bit. Fold the strip so tat the curled edges are facing each other. Then sew up the ends with a one inch seam using both a straight and a diagonal seam to ensure it doesn't come out.

After that plug in your hot glue gun and let it heat up. While you are waiting for it to heat up, take the smaller 12in strip and twist it a little in your hands. Then wind it around so it begins to look like a little rosette. You can glue as you go or just glue it on when it's completed like I did. The most important thing is to remember to put the flower off to the side. And yes, I am saying this warning sincerely as I made that mistake. Cute.

These headbands are so easy to make you can whip them right up even if you can't sew you could even get away with glueing the ends together!

Start using up those old t-shirts now!

Why Haven't I Made This?!

Cutest hat ever right?! Once I finish the Owl Hat I am working on I think that this shall be my next project.

Speaking of projects, I have been very stagnant in my knitting. And crafting. And being creative in general. My new job has been keeping me very busy! Which explains why I haven't kept up with my resolve to blog at least twice a week.

Now that I feel like I have adjusted to my new schedule, I think I will get back into the groove. And that means maybe start on a hat that looks like this!!
