Black Flower Headband

Here are pictures of my sister wearing the black flower headband I made for her. Since she lives in Chicago and I don't often see her I had to give it to her while we were both in Florida for a family vacation. Being in Florida should explain the background of palm trees, but shouldn't explain the fleece she is wearing. Sadly it was quite cold the whole weekend she was down there. We kept joking that she should wear her new earwarmer to keep her warm!

I have a black one for sale at my etsy store and an oatmeal colored one on ebay! Check them out.

West Palm Beach

I did multiple hours worth of knitting while sitting relaxing on the this beach in West Palm. I actually took this picture when we were about to leave. I just thought it was so beautiful that I wanted to post it.

Knitting on the Beach!

I spent so much of my time on vacation knitting. Between my mom and I, we knit 8 or 9 squares for one baby blanket. I myself knit 3 driver covers for golf clubs and started a new scarf pattern.

Later this week I will try to get the pictures and the patterns up for the driver covers, as they are really cool and I am excited about them.

Here is a picture of one of my squares for the baby blanket sitting in the sand at West Palm Beach in Florida.

Winter Cowl

I decided to make a cowl to match the Flower headband I had made. I just took a simple pattern from LionBrand.com (click on heading to get to pattern). I made this cowl with Lion Brand chunky weight yarn. I used a sz P crochet hook. It didn't take long at all to make this cute cowl that will match the other winter gear I have been making!

I haven't quite finished this but the pattern is simple. Single crochet one row and double crochet the next. The only catch it to make sure that you are connecting your rows by having the first stitch be a slip stitch!

I used a size P hook and bulky Lion Brand yarn.

R2D2 Hat

This was one of the three R2D2 hats I made for some of the boys I know that are big Star Wars fans. There are a few different ways that you can make a beanie like this. I tried a few different options and will continue to post pictures and methods I used for these hats. This was my first attempt. Although it came out a little bit smaller than I had anticipated it still fit my 10 yr old brother, who loved this.

Ribbon Yarn

This is a cotton viscose blend ribbon yarn I found at a local knitting shop. I love the look of a ribbon yarn. I bought three skeins of this and I am hoping to find something interesting and new to make out of it.

Ideas anyone?

Barbie Wedding Dress

This Barbie dress was made from a simple acrylic yarn and light pink netting. I just used some of the leftover netting I had from another project. You also could go to Joann's or any store that sells remnants and see if you can find something cheap there.

I knit this dress on my old Barbie Knitting machine but you can also use double pointed needles or circular needles. Just make sure you check your gauge before starting to project.

Gauge: 2 in sq= 12 rows and 7 stitches

To make the veil I took a smaller crochet hook I believe I used size H. Then I just chained a few stitched together and hand sewed on some netting.

Happy Birthday Mom!!

This is what I woke up to on vacation this morning! It is my mom's birthday today and Disney sent her this! Gotta love the magic of Disney :) And the magic of photography because I very carefully hid her age by hiding it behind the Mickey head!

Sadly it's in the forties here. While it beats the twenties back in Michigan, still doesn't quite reach laying out temp. Hopefully it will warm up throughout the week!

Knitting on the Plane!

I started making squares to crochet together into a baby blanket. Yellow, green and blue are going to be the colors of the different squares of the blanket. Or maybe green, yellow and tan then edge it in the blue. This project is still in the works! The pattern will be posted as soon as I figure out exactly how I am going to put this whole thing together. Stay tuned!

This is going to be for some friends that just adopted their first baby. Congrats Marty and Natalie!!!

Linen Yarn

This is a great yarn that I got at a local knitting store. This is a linen viscose and acrylic blend. Another skein of yarn that I am hoping to find something to make out of it. They only had one skein of this left so that definitely limits my options.

Joann's Coupon

Click on the header to get a 10% off your total purchase at Joann Fabrics. I would recommend getting some yarn and making flower earwarmers before winter is over.

Florida!!

I am leaving for Florida for ten days today!! I am so excited to sit in the sun and get some knitting done!!! I need to think how I can bring enough yarn and project ideas for ten days. I normally don't plan that far ahead I just decide that day what I am going to knit and then start making my pattern or searching for one online.

I have a few of my knitting magazines that I have been saving for the trip. I hid them in my closet so I would make sure I had some new patterns and magazines to dissect while on my trip.

Barbie Knitting Machine

This is what first got me knitting. I got this for Christmas one year when I was a little girl. I was probably 8 or 9 when I got this. I loved knitting skirts and dresses and tops for all of my Barbies. This is what first sparked my love for knitting. I still have this machine and I still use it to knit dresses for the girls I babysit.

Knit Flower Headband

**UPDATE: click here for google doc of pattern**

I was looking for a fun option of headgear for the winter months. After seeing a few cute things at different stores I decided upon a
knit headband with a crochet or knit flower attachment. I found a few patterns online but after making them I decided it might just be best to write my own pattern to tailor my exact wants and needs.

I saw this in a store and decided I wanted to make something that looked similar to this.

This is what I came up with.

You can make this headband with or without the attached flower or even attach something else! I have thought about large jewels or maybe a butterfly for a young girl.

Avalanche Knitting!!

Our winter retreat with church, "Avalanche" was amazing! We played fun outdoor games but us girls definitely tried to stay inside where it was warn most of the time. At night I taught Sara, Kristen and Olivia how to knit. These are my little prodigies :) They definitely caught on quick!! I had so much fun teaching them how to do something I love and I hope that they keep doing it!!
